Dr Olivia Poole

Clinical Research Fellow

Dr Olivia Poole is a Clinical Research Associate, funded by The Lily Foundation.  She studied undergraduate medicine at University College London Medical School before pursuing post-graduate neurology training in London and Kent. She works with the adult Mitochondrial Disorders team at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and is undertaking a PhD at UCL Institute of Neurology.

Her research ranges from clinical to basic science research. Through clinical projects, she hopes to improve understanding of the impact of Mitochondrial Disease on patients, helping to identify ways in which clinical care can be optimised. In the lab, she explores the molecular mechanisms by which newly discovered nuclear genes cause disease, the aim of which is to return a genetic diagnosis to patients seen in clinic, and to build on knowledge concerning the structure and function of mitochondria, enabling new treatments to be developed in the future.
