Dr Kate Sergeant

Senior Clinical Scientist

Kate Sergeant is a senior Clinical Scientist in the mitochondrial genetics team at the Oxford Medical Genetics Laboratories. After graduating with a degree in Genetics from Newcastle University, she studied for a PhD at the Institute of Human Genetics in Newcastle. Following this, Kate trained as a Clinical Scientist in molecular genetics with the Northern Genetics Service and continued to work in Newcastle after registration with the Health and Care Professions Council. Kate successfully passed Part 1 of the FRCPath examination in molecular genetics in 2012 and moved to Oxford in 2013 where she initially started working in the cardiac genetics team. She was appointed to a senior position in the mitochondrial team in January 2016 and is enjoying using her experience to help develop the diagnostic mitochondrial service provided by the Oxford Medical Genetics Laboratories.
