Simon obtained his PhD (Pterin Metabolism) from Aston University in 1987 and was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists in 2003. His clinical reporting duties are in the areas of Mitochondrial, Lysosomal and Neurotransmitter disorders. This work is underpinned by an active research group (PhD students and Post Docs) carrying out both translational and basic research. Simon is Medical and Scientific Director of the AADC Research Trust and Secretary of the SSIEM Academy. He has published over 150 papers in the area of mitochondrial, neurotransmitter and lysosomal disorders and holds grants from industry, charitable organizations, NIHR and the European Union.
