Dr Kate Sergeant

Principal Clinical Scientist

Kate Sergeant is a senior Clinical Scientist in the mitochondrial genetics team at the Oxford Genetics Laboratories. After graduating with a degree in Genetics from Newcastle University, she studied for a PhD at the Institute of Human Genetics in Newcastle. Following this, Kate trained as a Clinical Scientist in molecular genetics with the Northern Genetics Service and successfully passed Part 1 of the FRCPath examination in molecular genetics in 2012. Kate moved to Oxford in 2013 and was appointed to a senior position in the mitochondrial team in January 2016. She is enjoying using her experience to help develop the diagnostic mitochondrial service provided by the Oxford Medical Genetics Laboratories, including taking on the pyruvate dehydrogenase deficiency service previously offered by Dr Garry Brown.
